IP/MPLSView™ Modeling Essentials

Modeling Essentials is included with the standard Design & Planning package and includes a powerful set of features for the network planner, designer, and engineer. For advanced capabilities, check out the optional Modeling Packs.

Modeling Essentials includes:

Automatic Topology Construction

  • Input from Spreadsheets, Configuration Files, or Manual Input via the Graphical Interface
  • Automated Topology Layout Algorithms
  • Fast - usually a matter of seconds or a few minutes depending on network size

Advanced Network Visualization

  • Special Protocol-specific Views
  • Geographical Maps and Coordinates
  • Zooming, Panning, and Advanced Map Manipulation Tools
  • Routing and Paths Displayed on Map
  • Link Utilization and Traffic Displays on Map

Multi-Protocol, Multi-Layer Routing Simulation

  • Protocols: OSPF, ISIS, EIGRP, RIP, BGP*, MPLS*, GRE*, etc.
  • Static and default routes, policy-based routing (PBR), access control lists, etc.

Resiliency Simulation - Predict Network Resiliency to Outages

  • Perform Multi-Layer failure simulation across both LSP tunnel* and IP layers. Reports/statistics are generated for both failed LSP tunnels* and failed flows.
  • Fail network elements interactively from the topology map. Examine the routing/rerouting of flows and LSP tunnels*. Useful for troubleshooting individual failures.
  • Run Exhaustive "Batch" Failure simulations (e.g. fail every node, site, interface, card, SRLG, etc.). Potentially problematic failure(s) are reported. Use IP/MPLSView to make adjustments to the network model or topology and rerun the failure simulation to ensure the problem is averted.
  • Simulate multiple network element failures, randomized daily failures, etc.
  • Perform Peak/Worst-case Utilization analysis. Study the impact of traffic routing and rerouting during failures. If end-to-end traffic load data is supplied, IP/MPLSView records the worst loading experienced on each link and the failure that caused the worst-case scenario.
  • Perform Bottleneck Analysis.

Network Modification - Validate Changes Safely prior to Deployment

  • Perform countless "What-if" Scenario Analyses
  • Make modifications to the network topology (add, modify, delete)
  • Make modifications to any network elements (nodes, links, LSPs*, VPNs*, etc.)
  • Change routing protocols, protocol attributes, metrics, etc.
  • Change traffic load patterns, CoS policies and assignments, etc.
  • Perform a Design (e.g. LSP tunnels*, FRR, Multicast*, etc.) and view the impact on routing
